About Us

I'm a netball mum.

I wanted to be a hockey mum, but Kyra had zero interest. She started playing netball when she was six, and like most parents, I found myself standing on the sidelines every Saturday in the rain and cold.

Before long I was scoring games, trying to learn the rules (I still don't know all of them), and spending more and more time at the courts.

Then I went to my first Mystics game.

I honestly had no idea netball could be like that.

The speed. The athleticism. The atmosphere. The strength and skill of the players. I walked out of that stadium absolutely hooked and I've had season tickets ever since.

I became a huge Mystics fan. I loved watching players like Peta Toeava and Grace Nweke, and the more I watched netball, the more I wondered why there didn't seem to be a brand that put netball first.

Other sports had brands built around them. Netball seemed to get whatever was left over.

So I decided I should start one.

Not because I had experience in the sports industry. Not because I had some grand business plan.

Simply because I loved netball and thought it deserved its own brand.

SHOOT! started with an idea for socks. I spent a few months researching manufacturers, learning about fabrics, and figuring out how to turn an idea into a real product. It was exciting, terrifying, and completely outside my comfort zone.

One of the highlights came when I sent some socks to the Mystics players simply because I was a fan and wanted them to have a pair.

Then one day I saw Charlotte Manley wearing them.

I was blown away.

Later she wore them while representing New Zealand at the Under-21 Netball Youth World Cup, which was one of those surreal moments where you have to remind yourself that this little idea you started at the local Pakuranga netball courts had somehow ended up on a court in Europe.

Today, a few thousand pairs of SHOOT! socks have found their way onto indoor and outdoor netball courts across New Zealand and Australia.

We're still small. We still have big dreams. We'd love to add more colours, more products and eventually apparel too. But we're taking it one step at a time.

The name SHOOT! comes from netball, of course, but it's also about life.

Taking a shot isn't just for goal shooters.

It's about backing yourself. Having a go. Trying something even when you're not sure how it'll turn out.

That's exactly how SHOOT! started.

And that's what we hope to encourage every netballer to do.

Take the shot!
